Hate to say it, but we were right about the EU all along

AT last the truth. Over the past 40 years those of us who warned that the European Union (EU) was, in reality, a federal state in the making, have been publicly ridiculed, laughed at, ignored and insulted. Politicians, celebrities and the mainstream media, especially the BBC, have queued up to pour scorn on such a suggestion.

But now it appears we were right all along.

On the September 11 this year the Portuguese EU Commission president, Manuel Barroso, gave his State of the Union address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, during which he stressed time and again that he was not advocating the creation of a European super state.

You judge.

Manuel would like the following: 'An economic union, a political union, an economic and monetary union (a single currency), a banking union and a fiscal union'. He also wants 'more integration', a 'single European supervisory mechanism for the eurozone' and 'fully equipped community, economic governance'.

In addition he wants pan-European political parties to replace national political parties and he would like to see the EU deploying 'military missions' enforcing 'common foreign security policies' because 'together we have the power and the scale to shape the world'.

Finally he stated that 'the present European Union must evolve towards a 'federation of nation states' through a 'sharing of sovereignty'. Given the shopping list of powers he has already outlined you might be mistaken for thinking he was describing a fully fledged federal state.

But in case there should be any doubt, Guy Verhofstadt MEP, the former Belgian prime minister and leader of the third largest political group in the European Parliament, addressed the press immediately after Barroso's speech. He demanded 'the creation of a true federal state... that has a European Treasury, a European Bond market, a European government.... obviously this takes over from nation states'.

In addition to all that on September 17, 2012, eleven EU states describing themselves as 'the Future of Europe Group' produced a report recommending the implementation of all the areas of governance identified in Barroso's speech.

And the response in Britain? Not a word of any kind from a British MP, minister or the Prime Minister and barely a mention anywhere in the press or media.

When a collection of foreign politicians can openly publish a blueprint for the destruction of Britain and this fails to prompt an immediate rebuke from our leaders, then we are surely doomed.

The shared sovereignty that Barroso talks of doesn't exist. You are either a sovereign self-governing nation or you're not.

Britain is being sleep-walked into extinction led by her own politicians, aided and abetted by the mainstream media.

I hate to say this, but I told you so.
