The new building has enabled staff to provide many services to the community including nursery education, day care for children in need, soft play and sensory rooms, drop in groups, and training for parents and the local community.

It was commissioned by Bristol City Council and shares common facilities Hareclive Primary School next door.

Visiting architect Andrew Kenyon said: "The Children's Centre is cheerful and practical. Technically it functions well with good acoustics, natural light and ventilation. There are three teaching rooms that lead to a terrace that provides outdoor teaching and play spaces.

"The end result is a good example of a building that has understood the essence of a children's centre specific to its neighbourhood through a close working relationship between the community, client and architect."
