Harrier Emma D'Alton aims for Stroud event PB
Emma D'Alton will be looking to round off a superb seven days with another personal best in the Stroud half marathon on Sunday.
The 32-year-old Westbury Harrier has set herself a tough challenge having carved more than a minute off her PB to win the Salisbury half marathon in 84mins 11secs last Sunday.
But, as that performance came on a hilly course and less than 24 hours after she helped Westbury's women finish 18th in the National 4-Stage Road relays, D'Alton believes there is more to come.
"I always intended to run both the Salisbury and Stroud races, and then I'll take a rest," said D'Alton, who lives in the centre of Bristol.
"I have recently plucked up the confidence to experiment with my race pace and at the Oldbury 10 I did 6mins 15secs miling. I tried that at Salisbury but it will be a pretty hilly course and I was feeling tired after the relays the day before.
"At Stroud, I'll try for 6:10-15 minute-miling and see how it goes but you never know what could happen on the day.
"Nonetheless, I feel in good shape and I would love to break 84 minutes."
Joining D'Alton on the start line will be club-mates Lizzy Smith and Fidelma Crowe, while the Westbury men's team comprises Anthony Glover, Steve Adams and Gregg Ward.
Bristol & West AC mountain-running international Kate Goodhead has high hopes for her local race – she lives in nearby Slad – and will be looking for a big improvement on the 79mins 36secs for fourth place 12 months ago.
"I am hoping to run under 75 minutes and I'm really excited about the race," said Goodhead.
Clubmate Tom Russell is also entered and on current form should be pushing for a top six place.
● Richard Peters, Dan Woolford, Nathan Young, Phil Lucker and Phil Parry are included in the Bristol & West AC squad for the Easy Runner South West Cross-Country relays at King's College, Taunton, on Sunday.
"It is a good warm-up for the national championships in Mansfield the following week," said team manager Mike Down.
The women's squad will comprise in-form Rebekkah Randell and Eleanor Wimshurst.
● Sole Events, with the backing of Bristol's Easy Runner, have organised the first Bristol off-road duathlon at Ashton Court on Sunday (10am).
Over 100 entries have been received for the event, which comprises a 5k run, followed by a 20k mountain bike ride before finishing with another 5k run. Among those on the start line will be Clevedon AC's World Ironman contestant Kit Stokes.
● Ron Shannon and Steve Powell, of Bitton Road Runners, are running the Washington Marines Marathon, in America, on Sunday.
● Bristol & West AC's Tom Merson is entered for the Great South Run 10-mile road race in Southsea on Sunday.
● The next Bridge Inn 5k road race will be held on Tuesday in Shortwood with entries taken on the night.
