A massive search rescue was mounted after a pensioner from Burnham-on-Sea went missing at the weekend.

About 15 Coastguards, police and volunteers from rescue charity BARB were involved in the search for a man in his 70s on Sunday, March 1.

The man, described as frail, went missing from a residential nursing home on Sunday morning, prompting worried staff to call emergency services for help. Steve Perks, of BARB, said: "The beach, seafront, town centre and the banks of the River Brue were searched for several hours, until the man was eventually found several miles away at the Clyce in Highbridge.

"He was unhurt and completely unaware of the search operation that had been launched to find him."
