NICHOLAS Wanderers A Under-9s became the first team to beat Bitton this season with a 5-1 aggregate victory in Division A.

They gave themselves a great platform in game one as goals by Liam Palmer (2) and Kyle Roberts swept them into a 3-0 lead before Bitton pulled one back with a free-kick.

Gianni Porcaro had a hand in all three goals, while Tommy Trott and Mitch Hutson both enjoyed terrific games.

Wanderers won the second game 2-0, Bradley Ind putting them in front with a header and Callum Laughlin doubling their advantage.

Dan Tancock and Callum Parker stood out at the back for Wanderers.

Ashton Boys came out on top in their double fixture against Downend Rangers with two 4-1 victories.

Goals by Billy Evans, during a goalmouth scramble, and Aidan Jones, with a deflected corner, handed Ashton a 2-0 A-game win. Birthday boy Dillion Purnell caught the eye with some quality defending.

Ashton took the B-game honours 2-1. Steven Jeary's corner was neatly finished by the ever-improving Sam Hilton and Newman Ball fired home an Alfie Pope free-kick.

The second hotly-contested encounter was played out in almost identical fashion. Goals by Wes Carew and Jones, with a raking free-kick, sealed a 2-1 first-game win, while Ball scored twice, one a penalty the other a searing left-footer, as Ashton won the second match 2-1 to wrap up a second 4-1 aggregate victory.

A 4-0 second-game success propelled St Nicholas A to a 5-1 aggregate victory over Avon Athletic, who had held them to a 1-1 draw in a tight opening tussle.

In a competitive first match, Avon were kept at bay by some great defending from Tom Bidder and Kyle Bernhardt, while at the other end Joe May and star man Adam Blue were thwarted by a fine display by the Avon keeper.

The stalemate was broken early in the second half when Avon took the lead, but Saints kept attacking and got their reward through Blue's equaliser.

After starting slowly, Saints snatched the lead in the second game with a fine strike from man-of-the-match Luke Henderson, who quickly pounced on a rebound to net his second.

Saints continued to press, with Matt Bryant and Alex Langridge prominent, and two long-distance strikes from midfielder Daniel Dempsey clinched a 4-0 win.

Stoke Lane overcame Highridge United 6-2 over two entertaining encounters.

They lost the first game 2-1, despite an equaliser from Max Butcher, but completely dominated the second match, in which the skilful Sam Kewley and Bailey Croome produced fine displays.

Kewley scored the opening goal, Mitchell Bombroff hit a hat-trick and Marcus Smith added the other to complete a 5-0 success.

Brislington Juniors ended Yate United's proud unbeaten Division B record in great style with a 9-4 aggregate success.

They had to do it the hard way as Jake Pullinger's first-half strike for Brislington was not enough to prevent them falling to a 2-1 opening-game defeat. But they hit top gear in game two, winning 8-2 thanks to Sam Crumb's seventh hat-trick of the season, Niall Hennessey (2), Max Backwell (2) and an own goal.

Longwell Green SC swept into a 4-0 first-game lead against Ashton B – then lost the second contest by the same scoreline.

Tom Frankcom netted twice in the first game, with a powerful drive and header. Joe Harding and Reece Dimond were also on target, while goalkeeper Jamie Griffin and defenders Dan Sparks and George Honeywell also did well.

Ashton turned the tables in game two despite the best efforts of keeper Tom Chabowski and battling displays by Ryan Jones and Matt Pope.

James Gulliford nearly scored for Longwell, while Sam Williams, Ewan Dineen and Ben Bielecki worked industriously in an entertaining game.

Mangotsfield United surged to a 7-0 first-game victory over Bradley Stoke United before going down 4-0 in the second fixture.

Jake Oliver's penalty ensured every outfield player in Field's team has got on the scoresheet this season, while further goals from Archie Clark (2), star man Lloyd Wintle, James Flowers and Joshua Treadgold (2) completed an emphatic opening-game win.

Oliver Redfern had a good game in midfield for the B team, but with two key players missing they were always struggling.

Fry Club Colts left it until the second game of their Division B encounter with visitors Henbury Colts to seal a 5-2 overall victory.

Kieran Watson was on target for Fry's in game one, which they lost 2-1. But game two was a different story as Fry's swept to a 4-0 victory courtesy of star man Joe Siddall's hat-trick, his second a firm header from Dominic Robinson's free-kick, and skipper Charlie Parsons' 20th goal of the season.

Downend Saints continued their run of good form in Division C with a 9-2 aggregate victory over Nicholas Wanderers Colts.

Goals from Ben Wheaton (3), Jack Brice, and outstanding skipper Andrew Clark, with his first two goals of the season, put Saints in the driving seat with a 6-0 game-one success, while a brilliant Dominic Rowe save denied Wanderers a consolation.

Game two was a more even affair, Saints snatching it 3-2 thanks to man-of-the-match Karl Bessell's triple, his first coming direct from a corner after excellent midfielder Joseph Porter's long-range attempt had been beaten behind.

The hard-working Joseph Mulrenan came close on several occasions to adding to Downend's tally, while Wanderers pulled one back just before the end with an excellent left-foot finish that crashed in off the underside of the bar to set up an exciting finale.

Winterbourne United edged out Bristol Spartak by a single-goal margin over two thrilling Division C encounters.

They made a slow start, falling 2-0 behind early on in game one before roaring back to draw 4-4 thanks to Benji Parker's hat-trick and Dominic Jewell's strike. Kieran Slade and Ryan Sharpe also went close to netting.

Dogged defending and inspired goalkeeping helped Winterbourne clinch a decisive 3-2 second-game victory, with Will Harriss scoring twice and Arlen Fitzgerald hitting the other goal.

George Huke, Kieran Jackson and Declan Heyward dominated possession in the Winterbourne midfield, while Aaron Prewett made an important save to deny Spartak an equaliser at 2-1 before a wrist injury forced him out of the game.

His replacement, Thomas Parker, was also kept busy, along with defensive partners Adam Pearce and Callum Mould, as Spartak took a hold of the contest before Winterbourne finally pulled clear.
