ST Nicholas of Tolentine Primary has become the latest Bristol school to take delivery of a new play facility filled with junk.

The school in Pennywell Road, Easton, has received a Scrapstore PlayPod from charity Children's Scrapstore. The pod is filled with materials and objects that businesses routinely throw away, from giant flexible tubes, crates and netting to old phones, keyboards and packaging.

Head teacher Jackie McCarthy said: "Our school council asked us to improve play and I think all the staff, children and parents would agree we have done a fantastic job.

"The children are loving their new exciting play times. We have seen so much creativity and fun as children use the scrap and equipment to create all sorts of games.

"Having fun at playtime is so important for children, and often the thing they remember most about their day. By paying attention to children having positive play times we have noticed children are happier and more settled in lessons too."

Jeff Hill, Children's Scrapstore chief executive, said: "We're delighted to see the pod being so well received at the school. They can make a real difference to life at school.

"Children enjoy playing with the waste items and head teachers report that children are happier and more ready to learn after a PlayPod lunchtime."
