Hansel in return to Hambrook
John Hansel has left Bowood, where he was director of golf, and returned to Hambrook Golf Centre as business manager.
The 37-year-old Hansel has been a PGA professional since 1989 and was assistant at Monmouthshire Golf Club, professional at Morlais Castle, director of golf at the Bells Hotel and Forest of Dean Golf Club and lecturer in golf studies at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.
He said: "I did everything I wanted to do at Bowood, which was a fantastic place to be and is now enhanced greatly with a superb new hotel.
"But, I live two minutes from Hambrook and wanted to be close to my family."
● Richard Carter, who quit his job as a greenkeeper at Lansdown to concentrate on golf, has been named Gloucestershire's player of the year.
County captain Nigel Thompson made the announcement at the annual dinner and it marked Carter's outstanding success in helping the county into second place in the Channel League.
He also won all but two of his county singles matches in South West Week at Broadstone and took 12th place in the English Strokeplay Championship.
Carter tried to join the European Tour but failed to progress past the first qualifying stage.
He has now been invited to play in the High 5 Pro Tour Marathon Challenge.
The event runs over two weeks at Polaris World, a Jack Nicklaus designed course in Murcia, Spain, next month.
● Farrington juniors rounded off a successful season by winning the Somerset play off finals for the third successive year.
They defeated Burnham & Berrow and Windwhistle by two points in a play-off final in atrocious conditions at Weston-super-Mare after winning the Northern Area League.
● Burnham & Berrow are now running open nine-hole Stableford competitions on the second Wednesday and last Saturday of every month on the Channel Course.
Clifford Crawford won the first event with 19 points on countback from John Nuttall.
Dr P H (Mike) Barry, aged 86, who still plays off a handicap of 18, carded 16 points to finish third.
