Hanham crash out but Lebeq fly the FA Sunday Cup flag
Premier Division big guns Hanham Sunday and Lebeq Tavern experienced mixed fortunes when they were in the FA Sunday Cup.
Table-toppers Hanham Sunday, who have scored an amazing 30 goals in their four league games so far, suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 3-2 at Lakeside Athletic.
Lebeq, who are also unbeaten in their opening four league games, continued their winning run as goals from Shane Hobbs, Steve Kabba and Rob Smart sealed a 3-0 victory over Sporting Bristol and a place in round two.
Shireway Sports missed out on the opportunity to go level on points with the two Premier Division pacesetters after losing 5-2 at home to Beaufort. Craig Davidge helped himself to a hat-trick, while Gary Simmons and Lorenzo Gaetani weighed in with a goal apiece. Sam Vile and Luke Meacham scored for Shireway.
Steve Bright netted twice as White Tree picked up their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw at Easton Cowboys. Karem Rendall bagged a brace for the Cowboys.
Premier Divison sides Katsura and AFC Redland clashed in the Sid Rummins League Cup and played out a 12-goal thriller. Alex Jajak claimed a hat-trick and other goals from Ryan Ricketts (2) James Laver and Marne Long saw Katsura run out 7-5 winners.
Two goals each from Koran Gayle and Andrew Makepeace helped Avon Plate maintain their 100 per cent record at the top of Division I. Louis Boden scored the other goal in a 5-1 demolition of The Anchor, but only goal difference separates them from second-placed PJ Services, who beat Golden Hill Sunday 6-4 – their fourth win five outings.
Mark Stenner (2), Jeff Copp, Alex Bateman, Simon Overbury and Paul Johnson were on for PJ, with Daniel Rose (3) and Rich Tonkins scoring for Golden Hill.
Lebeq Tavern Reserves are a point behind in third place after a convincing 7-1 victory over Wizard Wanderers, while Dan Houghton (2), Luke Nicholls (2), Barry Lombard (2) and Sam Griffin were on target as Fishponds OB beat Salmon Solutions 7-2.
Division II leaders Mendip SBW suffered a shock defeat against Shire Sunday in the second round of the Bristol Evening Post Cup. Dan Griffiths (2), Andy Cook (2) and Craig Dimone scored for the Divison III side as they inflict ed a surprise 5-2 defeat on previously unbeaten Mendip, whose scorers were Brad and Terry Nutland.
The other two results in the competition had a more predictable look. Division II outfit BAWA Sports beat Division III Warwick 5-0, while Avon Plate Reserves are still without a win this season after slumping 5-0 in the all-Division III clash with Cutters Friday Sunday Reserves.
There was, however, a shock defeat for Divison II side Signal Generals in round one of the Charles Finch Cup. Luke Davey, Ash Casey and Marcus Roper scored as the Generals were beaten 3-2 by Divison III The Squire.
In Division II action, Niall O'Louglan and Kieron O'Connor were on target as Wardies Bar leapfrogged Bristol 5 Seniors to move into second place with a 2-1 victory over Sarafan Sports.
