Hamblin takes the title as Prideaux storms to victory
SIMON Prideaux scored a 13-mark win over Jason Hamblin in the North Somerset Club's Timed and Observation Trial at Stanton Wick on Sunday to claim the coveted RT Keedwell Transport Trophy, but Hamblin is this year's club champion.
He and Peter King went into the hour-long event virtually all square on points, but King had the ill luck to retire with clutch problems after only four laps.
Prideaux and Hamblin were the only ones to complete ten laps in the trials class, but Enduro class winner Andy Frost and first class award winners Tom Smith and Mark Hamblin equalled their feat.
Prideaux lost marks in only two sections, losing nine in the first on a cambered S bend climb and six more in a narrow gully climb in the fifth. Jason incurred a 15-mark debit in the first, five more in the fifth and other losses in the third and fourth. Paul Manning, who finished third but a lap down on the leaders, lost six in both the first and fifth plus nine in the fourth. Tom Smith set fastest time but Mark Hamblin finished in his wheel tracks.

A few miles away at Fry's Bottom, near Chelwood, Gary Marshman from Compton Dundon, near Somerton, staked his claim for a Wessex Centre Championship win by winning the Frome club's observation only trial by 24 marks from many times champion Colin Crease, with Kevin Hart a close third.
The event was staged over three laps of 12 sections, which featured a variety of going. Marshman lost eight of his total on a long meandering hill climb in the first section and the remainder of his total was made up of one or two mark penalties. Richard Elliot was in good form in the clubman expert class. He suffered three, three-mark debits, but he completed five of the 12 sections on every lap without penalty.
Over-40 years class winner Hedley Ashford incurred one maximum mark loss on each lap in the first, second and last sections.
