Hallissey - A day in the life of Bristol's World Half Marathon runner
Bristol's Claire Hallissey will be competing alongside Paula Radcliffe at the IAAF World Half Marathon championships in Birmingham this Sunday.
Hallissey, who competes for Bristol & West AC, has been selected for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the forthcoming event after knocking a minute off her lifetime best at the Bristol Half Marathon on September 6 with a time of 1:12:03.

And the 26-year-old, who became the fastest ever time by a local athlete in the Bristol Half, has given This Is Bristol a unique insight into her daily routine in the run up World Champs.
6.00am: Morning run. I wake up and have a quick glass of water and handful of dried fruit before heading out for a 40 minute steady run, followed by some stretching.
7.30am: Breakfast. A bowl of cereal or porridge followed by toast and marmalade, accompanied by a big mug of tea.
9.00am: Start work in my office at the university. In the past I would have been heading into the laboratory at some point but I am now concentrating on writing my PhD thesis and so most of the day is spent typing away on my laptop.
10.30am: Morning tea break. A mug of green tea with some fruit or a piece of home baked cake.
12.30am: Lunch. At the moment this is usually some form of rice or cous cous salad with beans/pulses and plenty of vegetables, followed by a few pieces of fruit. As the weather continues to cool I’ll be moving on to nice hot bowls of homemade soup. Lunch time is also the ideal opportunity to use the internet to talk to my husband over in the States while he has his breakfast.
4.30pm: Afternoon snack. I’ll have a banana and usually an energy bar or some fruit loaf to make sure that my energy levels are topped up for the evening’s training session.
7.00pm: Evening training. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I join other athletes from Bristol and West AC and the university for speed sessions on the grass or roads. Immediately after training I have a small bowl of muesli and yoghurt or peanut butter and jam on toast, to provide my muscles with some much needed carbohydrate and protein.
9.00pm: Dinner. Because I arrive back late from training this is usually something quick and easy to prepare like a stir fry with noodles.
22.00pm: Evening stretching. After dinner I do a few stretches in front of the TV, to make sure that I’m not too stiff for the following morning’s run and hopefully to stop me developing any injuries. Whilst doing my stretching I usually have a mug of herbal or green tea and a piece of dark chocolate.
23.00pm: Bed time.
Hallissey's coach Keith Brackstone said after her Bristol half win she can go even faster and international competition will only help.
"At the World Championships she will be surrounded by top-class international runners, so Claire can get her head down and tuck in with a group and see what that brings her," he said. "I'm sure there is much more to come from her."
