PROMOTION favourites Leicester brushed Cheltenham aside at
Whaddon Road.
Lloyd Dyer netted twice, with Matt Oakley and Matt Fryatt
also on target.
Dyer put Leicester in front in the third minute, smashing
home from close range after Shane Higgs had saved from Matt
Fryatt.
Cheltenham came close to an equaliser three minutes later
when Craig Armstrong stabbed goalwards after a corner, but
Kerrea Gilbert cleared off the line.
Higgs had to make good saves from Matt Oakley and Fryatt,
while Fryatt went through, and he rounded Higgs but, from a
narrow angle, could not find the empty net.
Leicester went close again when Andy King’s curler clipped
the bar, then Cheltenham suffered a blow when Paul Connor
limped off with a knee injury.
Higgs was in action again after 38 minutes, coming out
quickly to deny Dyer a second, then at the other end, David
Martin smothered a Myrie-Williams opening.
Vincent then had a good shot saved by Martin in injury time
after neat build-up work by Jerry Gill, Dave Bird and
Myrie-Williams.
Leicester grabbed their second when Fryatt went through and,
after Armstrong’s last-ditch tackle denied him, he retrieved
the ball and found Oakley, who had time and space to pick his
spot from 25 yards.
Steve Howard had a goal disallowed after 72 minutes, but
four minutes later Fryatt hammered in the third from a
free-kick from 20 yards.
After 79 minutes, Dyer was put through down the left and
outpaced Townsend before drilling a shot past Higgs.
