Half kilo of illegal stimulant seized in Weston-super-Mare
POLICE have seized almost half a kilo of a potentially deadly banned stimulant drug they say is popular with teenagers.
A 19-year-old man was arrested during a raid in Weston-super-Mare in which the drug methylethylcathinone, known as NRG2, was found.
The class B drug is an amphetamine-like substance similar to mephedrone and has been banned since 2010. Police say the 448 grams seized in Weston would have been worth £9,000 if sold on the street.
PC Richard Grierson, from one of the police's district targeting team, said: "We're really pleased that we've managed to take such a significant amount of this drug off the streets of Weston. This seizure would have had a street value of almost £9,000.

"NRG2 is a recreational drug that is largely used by teenagers and young adults which can cause severe reactions and even death in users.
"Often drugs such as NRG2 and M-CAT start off life being sold as legal highs or plant food, exploiting loopholes in the law. This might make them seem safer than other more commonly known drugs to users but they can be just as lethal."
The arrested man has been charged with possessing the drug with intent to supply and has been remanded in custody. Anyone with information about drug-dealing should call the police on 101.
