Hairdressers offer advice for cancer sufferers facing hair loss
People affected by cancer in Bristol can receive specialist hair care advice under a new partnership launched by Toni&Guy hairdressers with Macmillan Cancer Support.
Strength in Style has been launched to offer men, women and children affected by cancer specialist support and advice on hair care. The St Augustine's Parade salon is one of 40 across the UK to offer this new pilot service. The initiative is scheduled to roll out nationally by the end of the year.
Emma Eaden, Strength in Style consultant, said: "We've learnt that for some people hair loss can be one of the hardest parts of cancer treatment, so we're very excited to provide such an important service to people affected by cancer in the local community."
Staff on the programme have undergone intensive training to help them deal with the emotional and practical issues surrounding the sensitive nature of hair loss and hair thinning due to cancer treatment. This also includes specialist training on wig fitting and styling.
Sally Hill, partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "Hair loss can have a huge impact on a person undergoing cancer treatment and their relationship with a hairdresser is extremely personal.
"Strength in Style will help us in our ambition to reach and improve the lives of people affected by cancer by giving them the strength and confidence to have more good days."
