Maidenhead United 0 Weston-super-Mare 0: Andy Gurney got his managerial career off to a promising start when his makeshift squad picked up a valuable Blue Square South point at York Road.

Missing suspended defenders Cedric Abraham and Darren Mullings, skipper Charlie Comyn-Platt through illness, and Ludovic Quistin on international duty, Gurney and striker Ryan Havard were also serving one-game suspensions, which left just 12 senior players.

Gurney welcomed back centre-back Craig Rand for his first full game for almost a year and he was outstanding.

The home side dominated the first half with Rocky Baptiste missing three good chances in the opening 20 minutes.

In the opening minute, Baptiste sent a soft header into the arms of keeper Ryan Northmore, then he fired wide and lobbed a shot over the crossbar.

In the second half, Baptiste failed to connect with Dale Binns' superb cross from the left.

Marc McGregor should have done better when put through on 30 minutes, but he fired weakly at keeper Shane Gore.

Dean Grubb had Weston's best effort on 53 minutes when his 35-yard effort came down off the underside of the crossbar.

Weston have appointed former Cinderford boss Chris Smith as assistant manager to Gurney.
