JEMIMA Gregson has retained the Gloucestershire girl's championship at cool, blustery Minchinhampton. The three-handicapper, who won last year at her home club Knowle, carded 78 to beat her county colleague Victoria Wakeley-Jones (Minchinhampton) by one shot.

The 15-year-old Chew Valley schoolgirl from Pensford has been a member of the full county side for two seasons and has helped Gloucestershire into the final of the county championship for the second successive year.

The South West Schools Championship that was due to be played at Long Ashton on Sunday was postponed because of the wet conditions.

The Failand Cup Duchess Salver event scheduled to be played at Bristol & Clifton at the same time was also postponed as a result of the recent bad weather. An alternative date is being sought.

Jamie Dick (Forest Hills) won the Ross Scratch Cup, the previous Salver event at Ross-on-Wye, from last year's county champion Tom Workman (Stinchcombe). Lansdown's Paul Garland, 73, 75, and Henbury's Nick Day, 73, 75, were fourth on 148.

Andrew Sherborne (Kendleshire) continued his fine run on the European Seniors' Tour by finishing joint 11th at Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. He shot 69, 70 and 66 for a total of five-under-par 205, worth more than £4,000. The Players Club pair George Ryall and Gordon Brand Jnr were 35th and 42nd.

He has now won around £27,000 from seven tournaments this year and lies 20th in the order of merit. Brand Jnr is 33rd and Ryall 57th.
