Bristol Academy manager Gary Green is targeting a top-eight finish in the FA Women's Premier League.

After an improved showing in defeat against Chelsea 12 days ago, Green's side drew 1-1 at home to fourth-placed Doncaster Rovers Belles on Sunday.

Gwen Harries gave the Academy the lead 10 minutes before half-time, but Chelsea Weston's second-half free-kick earned the Yorkshire side a point.

Green said: "It was a fair point, although we could have been two or three goals up.

"We've had more go in us of late. We don't look a bad team, we just aren't scoring enough goals when we are on top."

The Academy travel to Liverpool on Sunday, where victory would mathematically ensure the Bristol side of their Premier League place next season.

Green, however, is focussed on more than simply avoiding the drop.

"We want to finish in the top eight," he added. "Putting the emphasis on avoiding relegation would only put pressure on the girls."

Meanwhile, the Academy's FA Women's Cup conquerors Sunderland shocked Chelsea 3-0 in their semi-final tie and will face mighty Arsenal, who beat Everton 3-1, in the final at Pride Park, Derby, on Monday, May 4.

Keynsham Town's hopes of promotion from the Premier League Southern Division took a knock as they slipped to defeat at home to lowly Brighton.

Tammy Waine's second-half free-kick proved to be the only goal of the game.

Keynsham will look to bounce back in their home match against fellow high-fliers Barnet this weekend.

Oldland Abbotonians assistant manager Steve Lavis says his side must win at South West Women's League Division One North leaders Chippenham Town on Sunday in order to maintain their title challenge.

"We need to beat them," said Lavis. "It will be very, very tricky, although we should have beaten them in our home game."

Oldland will go into the game buoyed by a 4-3 win over a vastly-improved Cirencester Town. Sarah Clarkson (2) and Gemma Summers turned an early 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 half-time lead and, after Town equalised in the second half, Summers finished off a counter-attack to win the game for the Abbots late on.

Elsewhere, Weston St Johns Reserves did Oldland a favour by winning 4-2 at Bishops Lydeard, while Keynsham Town Development went down 1-0 at Swindon Spitfires.

In the South West Premier, Chloe Williams' equaliser made it 1-1 at the break between Stoke Lane Athletic and Gloucester City, but the home side collapsed to a 6-2 defeat in the second half with only Michelle Purse's strike to show for their efforts.

Bristol Union also had a bad day as they lost 3-0 at Poole Town.

In the Gloucestershire County League, Bitton missed the pick of the chances as they went down 1-0 at home to Cheltenham Town Reserves in Division Two, while in Division One Bristol & West and Yate Town suffered heavy home defeats at the hands of Cam Bulldogs (3-0) and Forest Green Rovers Reserves (5-0) respectively.

Forest Green's victory means leaders Cleeve West Town still have work to do at the top of Division One, although this weekend they turn their attention to the semi-finals of the League Cup. Cleeve West host Cam, finalists for the past two seasons, while the other semi-final is between Division Two title aspirants Forest of Dean and Swindon Supermarine.
