Green light for signal box bid
COUNCILLORS in South Gloucestershire have voted in favour of spending £15,000 on a makeover for a former railway signal box at Warmley.
The upgrade for the iconic landmark on the Bristol to Bath cyclepath is among a £385,000 package of spending measures at eight green spaces in the Kingswood area.
A £45,000 facelift of the Westons Hill Drive play area in Emersons Green was approved as well as £60,000 to install toddler play equipment at Long Road in Mangotsfield, £23,000 to upgrade facilities at Hanham Cricket Club, £4,000 to improve Hanham Common, £10,000 to make further improvements to the Southey Park skate park, £78,000 to regenerate Fountain Square in Staple Hill and £135,000 to fund a new skate park and other improvements at Warmley Golf Course as part of efforts to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Cabinet Councillor James Hunt (Con, Emersons Green), Conservative lead member on the Communities Committee, said: "This investment is great news for many of our local parks and play areas because these green lungs are so effective at bringing neighbours and communities together, especially in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year."
