Orr shouldn’t be on the list

I CAN’T believe Bristol City have put Bradley Orr on the transfer list

His distribution may not be the best, but he’s been a good servant to the club since his short spell in prison, and has obviously reigned in his temper.

It makes little sense to me to let him go now when we are not exactly blessed with quality full-backs. I wish him well though.

I have to say the proposed new ground looks fantastic, and I am so pleased the club has not gone down the route of copying the likes of Derby and Swansea, but is planning something with a bit of character.

At this rate, we’ll have our ground finished well before the Gas, and hopefully we’ll have a team to match it by the time it’s finished.

Stadium has wow factor

WOW! That’s all I can say about City’s new-look stadium.

It looks like people at one end may get a bit of rain if that clear roof is anything to go by, but I really hope the final reality is something like this.

I just hope, if it goes up to 42,000 capacity, that the people who only turn up for trips to Wembley or Cardiff start buying season tickets!  Great news for the club, in any case.

City wrong to let Brooker go

I THINK it’s a mistake by Bristol City to let Steve Brooker go, but I will say that I still trust Gary Johnson.

If you look at the statistics on our strikers this season, none of them are finding the net regularly and for all Steve’s faults, he was a proven goalscorer who was always a threat.

He also clearly loved playing for the club, and that’s the sort of thing you need in this day and age when players seem to be only motivated by money and getting a new deal for themselves and their agents.

Good luck Steve, and if it is goodbye, thanks for all the goals.

JED SAYS: How long has this city waited to finally see the plans for a first-rate stadium and plans that look likely to go ahead. I’ve lost count of the number of times that all sports fans in this city have a false dawn but, with a bit of luck, we may finally be moving into the 21st Century with excellent stadia in both the north and south of the river. I will be among many others just waiting for the day that we can all go and watch our football and rugby at these places. I was at Ninian Park last week and Cardiff’s new ground, across the road, looks fantastic. I’m sure both developments will make this city proud. As for the movements at Ashton Gate, Steve Brooker needs match fitness and needs to play games somewhere. It would be sad to see him go on a permanent basis as he can be an influential player for City and has scored crucial goals for them at vital times. Bradley has been an effective player but the club can’t let him hold them to ransom. If he doesn’t want a new contract then Gary Johnson has little option but to try to make money out of it by letting him go before he is out of contract.

Keep tips for the defence

I’M pretty fed up of hearing Steve Phillips talk about all the things that Bristol Rovers need to be doing in defence.

I know he’s a great goalkeeper and I’m delighted we got him, but sometimes you read his comments and wonder if he ever does anything wrong.

Defences operate as a unit, and communication between a goalkeeper and his back four is usually the key.

Look at Manchester United when Peter Schmeichel was there, all the defenders knew where they stood with him.

By all means be angry when you concede a goal Steve, but keep your tips for the back four within the dressing room!

Up the Gas!

JED SAYS: Steve has been well known in the past for speaking out and sometimes he can be a journalist’s dream! He is a passionate man, clearly frustrated at conceding goals and what goalkeeper isn’t. I’m sure Steve knows if he has done something wrong and the comments he makes are born out of that frustration. After all, how many of us have not said things when frustration has kicked in?
