Bristol City boss Derek McInnes is running the rule over Grasshoppers play-maker Frank Feltscher.

The 24-year-old Venezuela international midfielder first teamed up with the Championship strugglers yesterday and will spend the rest of this week training at City's Failand headquarters.

Recommended to McInnes by a scout, Swiss-born Feltscher was set to play the first hour of a behind-closed-doors friendly game against Forest Green Rovers today.

The Swiss League is currently taking a winter break and Feltscher, who is out of contract at the end of this season, is looking to join an English club on loan.

In the market for a creative midfielder, McInnes had hoped to bring Neil Danns back to Ashton Gate for a second spell. But the experienced Championship campaigner has instead joined Huddersfield Town on loan and City's manager will now consider Feltscher if he impresses.

An attacking central midfielder, Feltscher launched his career as a teenager with Grasshoppers before joining Serie A club Lecce.

He was subsequently loaned out to Swiss League side AC Bellinzona during the second half of the 2008/09 campaign.

Feltscher joined Bellinzona on a permanent basis in 2009 and made 76 appearances before re-joining Grasshoppers in 2011.

Feltscher holds Venezuelan, Italian and Swiss passports. Although he represented Switzerland at under-21 level in 2007, he later played a full international for Venezuela in a friendly match against Argentina in India, rendering him ineligible for his country of birth. He has since made a further 10 appearances for Venezuela.

Feltscher comes from a footballing family. His brother, Rolf Feltscher Martinez plays for Parma as a defender, while his step-brother, Mattia Desole, is on Monza's books.
