Grass track action switches to Holbrook
Grass track racing fans who perhaps missed the all-action finals in last weekend's Bristol Combine meeting near Chippenham between Tim Nobes, Rob Melksham, Harland Cook, Charles Saunders and Paul Derrick, can get a second bite at the cherry by attending the Somerton club's charity meeting at Holbrook Park on the outskirts of Wincanton on Sunday.
Many leading sidecar crews from the South West will also be in action on a 600-metre circuit, including Myles Simmons and Jamie Brea and partners from Cornwall, Devon's Clive Stoneman and Alfie Pearn and crewmen and Rob Wilson and Phil Sims.
Local service station Anchor Hill Garage has stepped in to sponsor the main finals in a 48-race programme.
British sidecar trial champions Jon Tuck and Matt Sparks will be competing on home ground in the BSSA's Reg Lewis Cup trial at Elmington Manor Farm, Compton Greenfield, the same day.
Their main rivals in a two-lap,15-section event look like being Dave Tuck and Steve Chandler, Phil Sparks and Roger Tuck, and Steve and Harvey Radford.
The event is also open to clubman grade solos.
Bristol motocross star John May will be out to get even with Welshman Andrew Gillett in the second round of the Remedies Bar Championship at the Landrake Moto Park, near Saltash in Cornwall, on Sunday.
When the two clashed in the first round near Exminster in Devon a fortnight ago, Gillett won two of the three races and May the other.
Marshfield's George Davis, Terry House and Luke Mellows are also competing in the big bike races, while the big clash in the 125/250 races is between current champion Darren Shears and Will Worden, winner of two of the three races in the first round.
The World Motocross Championships starts at Faenza in Italy on Sunday.
Local followers will be charting the progress of Marshfield's Tom Church, who is a member of the CCM team this year, and Chippenham's Stephen Sword, whose confidence will be boosted by his overall win in last weekend's British Championship round at Langrish, near Petersfield.
