An £8,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund will pay for a health and fitness trail at a unit in Mangotsfield for children with behavioural, educational and social problems.

The trail will provide a physical challenge for the youngsters, teaching them how to work as part of a team, as well as improving their fitness.

Swinging logs, a net tunnel and trapeze swing will be included in the grounds at the Cotswold Education Centre.

Sheila Cook, South Gloucestershire Council's executive member for children and young people, said: "The centre has achieved some tremendous successes in helping young people turn their lives around.

"Many of the pupils come from extremely challenging backgrounds so this award will be of great benefit in helping them realise their true potential."

The unit accommodates up to 12 primary age pupils who may have been permanently excluded from mainstream education, working with them to get them back into school.
