Winterbourne-based Crusaders Cheerleaders are looking for more girls to join their award-winning teams.

The group was launched seven years ago by Rebekah Parker, who lives in Bradley Stoke. She put an advert in the Evening Post and was overwhelmed by the response.

More than 70 girls aged between five and 21 are now Crusaders Cheerleaders and they practice regularly at Fromeside Gymnastics Centre in Winterbourne.

The next chance to join is Sunday.

Rebekah said: "We are recruiting all ages and abilities and everyone makes a team. We have 70 girls but we would love to get as many people involved in cheerleading as possible. We have just returned from this year's national championships in Brighton. Each of our eight teams was placed in the top three for their age group, making us Bristol's most successful cheer and dance champions.

"Crusaders are undefeated across the South West, which shows their hard work and dedication has paid off."

In December last year, 30 girls competed in Las Vegas at the American Grand Championships, and finished just one point behind the world champions, California All Stars, in cheerleading and became Grand Champions in Senior Hip Hop.

This summer the Crusaders will attend a cheerleading camp in Milton Keynes. Crusaders attract girls from all different areas across Bristol.

Tryouts in the five to nine age group will be held 5pm to 6pm on Sunday. Girls aged 10 to 12 inclusive will be seen from 6pm to 7pm, girls aged 13 to 15 between 7pm and 8pm and girls aged over 16, 8pm to 9pm.
