Chippenham & District Wheeler Robert Gough finished in the top 10 of the National Hill Climb Championship on Sunday.

The recent winner of the Severn Road Club Hill Climb, who finished 17th in the national event last year, Gough recorded a time of 3 minutes 47.4 seconds on the 0.65-mile (1,200 yards) course on Pea Royd Lane in Stocksbridge, near Sheffield.

David Clarke, who rides for South West team Pendragon Kalas, finished in sixth spot, equalling his placing of last year.

But the field of 150 was blown away by Cervelo Test Team pro rider Dan Fleeman, who was fresh from finishing the Tour of Lombardy last week.

He won by 14 seconds from last year's winner, Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles).
