New gorillas appear by Clifton Suspension Bridge
TWO painted gorilla sculptures have appeared next to the road at the top of Sion Hill in Clifton.
Jackorilla, a Union Jack patterned sculpture, was designed by Clifton Traders' Association chairman Tony Miles and took 90 hours to complete.

Juborilla, a red patterned sculpture, was created by Alison Bracey of Clifton Village-based Bracey Interiors to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year.
The sculptures were created to promote the £2 million appeal launched by The Friends of Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre for a new radiotherapy machine, which would keep Bristol at the forefront of cancer treatment. They will be auctioned at the end of October with all proceeds going towards the appeal.

Mr Miles said: "The sculptures made a massive impact in Clifton over the weekend – everyone wanted a picture with them and they are a great tourist attraction.

Mr Miles added he would like to thank Castacrete Ltd for producing the concrete plinths being used to display the sculptures.
Last year, a life-size gorilla sculpture went on show in Clifton Village as part of Bristol Zoo Gardens' 175th birthday celebration project.
The Union Jack-patterned sculpture Kingdom was on show in The Mall Gardens.

“Do the organisers have planning permission for these two objects? Anyway, gorillas are a bit passe
as this was last year's publicity stunt so capably and professionally organised by the zoo. Couldn't the traders think of something news? These two objects on the approach to the Suspension Bridge spoil the view.”
