Gorilla sculpture stolen from Hengrove nursery is returned
A GORILLA sculpture that went missing from a nursery and pre-school in Hengrove has been returned.
Gary the Gorilla, as named by youngsters after a competition, was decorated during the Bristol Zoo Wow! Gorilla project by children at Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-school in Wells Road.
The colourful statue had been in the nursery’s garden for the last two years, but when staff came back to work after a weekend on Monday, February 18 they noticed it was missing.
Nursery staff reported the missing statue to police, who said they were investigating.

But the statue was voluntarily returned one week later on Monday, February 25 by a woman who did not give her name.
She said she had found the statue in her brother’s garden while house sitting.
Nursery Manager Jo Newman said: “Everyone is ecstatic that Gary has been returned to us, especially the children who kept asking where he was.
“We would like to say a big thank you to the parents and everyone who helped publicise our campaign to get Gary back.”
