Gordano battle back for victory
GORDANO rallied from 10-0 down for a 21-18 triumph at Minehead Barbarians in their first Somerset Premier outing for three weeks because of the weather.
A slow start was perhaps understandable, while the Portbury outfit did not help themselves by losing props Fred Young and Matt Stevens to the sin-bin after hooker Ben Gilmore had been forced off with a shoulder injury.
But Gordano gradually got on top thanks to Ash Cottrell, who booted three penalties, grabbed a try and also converted a set-piece move which produced a try for fly-half and skipper Aaron French, pictured.
Nailsea & Backwell took heart from pushing third-placed Stothert & Pitt so hard before giving away a late penalty and going down 23-20 at home.
The Ravens lost 52-15 in the corresponding away trip but were a different proposition here, battling back bravely after going 10-0 down. There were tries from hooker Tom Fletcher, Arron Rice and Rob Baker, who also booted a conversion and a penalty.
Chew Valley and Weston-super-Mare drew 30-30. Chew's tries came from Jack Evans, Dan Gatton and No 8 Darren Jefferies (2) with James Arnold (2), Dave Bird and George Kimmins replying.
No 8 Rich Sheppard's hat-trick helped St Bernadette's to a 36-7 home win over Sulians in Division One.
