Redwood Lodge Country Club hosted the Avon junior squash championships last weekend.

Juniors, aged from seven to 17, competed for age-group titles and there were plenty of hard-fought matches.

The large number of entries reflected a recent upsurge in the sport. Junior squash is expanding in the area and players are reaping the benefits of local Elite Squash coach Hadrian Stiff, who has competed at world-class level.

Avon champions – boys: Under-17s: Sam Ellis. Under-15s: Peter Joyce. Under-13s: Roushan Yau. Under-11s: Ewan Joyce.

Girls: Under-15s: Natasha Burrett. Under-13s: Molly Kendall. Under-11s: Karima Tyma.
