Good and evil
In John Joseph's Godless Universe (The Post January 28) there would be no virtue for anyone to have a monopoly of good or evil because they would have no meaning. Human actions would be based on multi billion value judgements, all irrational, but perhaps practical. Mother Teresa would have been no better or worse than Myra Hindley, simply because there is no objective better or worse. From the teachings of Christ or the Koran, one can rank actions against albeit conflicting ultimate standards, which do force a choice. That pleasure Mr Joseph has to forego, if he wishes to substantiate his claim that he has "strong rational arguments". He should read the Fastuca Copleston v Bertrand Russell debate in the latter's "Why I Am Not A Christian".
