A cold, dark day turned out to be bright and sunny, especially for Mardon AC's match secretary John Roberts, who scraped home to his first win of the season at Viaduct Fishery, Somerton.

He alternated between fishing a groundbait feeder and an 11 metre pole with a double red maggot hookbait off Spring Lake seven and weighed in just 2oz ahead of his nearest challenger with a 7-0-0 mixed bag.

The Preston Innovations-sponsored angler fished and fed red maggot at a 12 metre pole length off peg nine on the dam wall and weighed-in a winning 19-0-0 of skimmers and roach.

The runner-up was local expert Steve Dawson, who fished a waggler float with either caster or red maggot at around 20 metres centre off Road Bank Three to attract 14-9-0 of quality skimmers and roach.

Third-placed John Smith poled the same baits as Dawson at ten metres off neighbouring peg five to tempt an 11-9-0 mixed bag.
