Golden Oldies singing charity to launch new groups
A singing group for pensioners in North Somerset has proved such a hit that two more sessions are being launched.
The charity Golden Oldies, or Goldies as it has become known, has been running weekly singing sessions in Weston-super-Mare and Portishead for the last year.
Around 40 "Goldies" attend each week and sing hit songs from the 1960s and 70s.
Music man Grenville Jones, from Bath, leads the charity, supported by North Somerset Housing, and is now launching two new sessions in Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare in April.
The new sessions will start on April 24 at 10.30am at Sandringham Court on the Bournville Estate and at Clifton Court, Clevedon, on April 21 from 10.30am.
North Somerset Housing director of operations, Steve Chinn, said: "When we heard of Golden Oldies, we knew it would be a great success and we are delighted to be able to support these new sessions.
"The sessions help reduce the isolation that some older people can experience.
"We have provided funding from our NS Housing community fund and also a room where the groups can meet.
"The project fully supports our company vision of working together to build stronger communities."
Other sessions are held at the Methodist Hall, Portishead on Fridays from 10.30-11.30am, and at Martindale Court, Weston, on Tuesdays from 10.30-11.30am.
