GREAT Britain's Paralympic dressage team, which has three West Country members, will be in action from Sunday.

At the last Paralympic Games in Athens, GB won seven medals and earned 13 at last year's World Championships. Britain has never been beaten in Paralympic equestrian events, which have been running since 1996, and Britain has won team gold on every occasion.

The 2008 team includes six-time Paralympic gold medallist Lee Pearson, multi-medallist Anne Dunham, 69, from Swindon, who will be contesting her fourth Paralympics, and Deb Criddle, from Somerset, who has won gold at consecutive European, World and Paralympic championships. Joining the squad for her second Paralympics is 2004 Paralympic Games bronze medallist and World Championship gold medallist Sophie Christiansen. Completing the team are three Paralympic debutants – Ricky Balshaw, Simon Laurens, who lives near Gloucester, and Felicity Coulthard, who all won medals at last year's World Championships.

The competition in Hong Kong starts on Sunday and continues until September 11.

Paralympic dressage is divided into five classifications depending on disability. The riders compete in a set championship test and a freestyle to music competition. To keep up with the action, see equestrianteamgbr.co.uk.
