A FEMALE weightlifter from the Empire Sports Club in Bristol has competed for Wales in the Four Nations Olympic Weightlifting Tournament in Bangor.

Gemma Williams, 27, competed for Wales in the 75+kg category and received gold in her group.

Gemma matched the Welsh Senior record and lifted a total of 165kgs.

The rules of the competition differ from Olympic weightlifting as results count as a team, meaning one failed lift can dramatically affect the overall score.

The Welsh team finished fourth overall with England taking the victory.

Three weightlifters from Empire Sports Club will be competing in the British Under-18 Championship on the October 20.

Sonny Webster, Ellie Needham and Elliott Bamford will all be competing against the best lifters in Britain.

The event will be held at the Empire Sports Club in Bristol and starts at 11am and entry is free.
