Winter is possibly the perfect time to invest in some treats for your kitchen. Morphy Richards offers you a range of baking and cooking appliances, including the old faithful slow cooker that will help you bring warmth and comfort back to your home this winter.
In recent years the slow cooker has had a revival; with more people yielding to the notion of nostalgia and recreating the recipes of their childhoods, retailers have seen a significant increase in sales. We are starting to crave the smells and tastes of days gone by; after all, on a cold winter’s evening there really nothing more warm and comforting than mum’s beef stew.

Since the 1970s, slow cooker technology hasn’t changed much; most still operate on the same principle of using electric coils that wrap around the inside of a the cooker in order to provide direct, constant temperature that can be adjusted depending on how long you want the meal to be cooked. These days however, a much broader range is available on the market. Brands such as Morphy Richard’s, offer modern alternatives complete with a sleek stainless steel finish and often a digital capability that wouldn’t look out of place in the most contemporary kitchen.
Other great winter warmers are homemade soups that are the perfect solution to both hot suppers and lunches. A warm bowl of rich, hearty soup on a cold day is a great comfort during the cold winter months, and it is much better if it doesn't come from a can. Despite being trickier to make, the benefits of homemade soups by far outweigh those of the convenient canned variety....As well as all the hidden preservative, canned soups are high in sodium and generally lack the nutritional value of the fresh veg that you would use if you were making your own. Plus the homemade variety tends to be far less heavy but keep you fuller for longer.
Despite it being very easy to opt for convenience over nutrition when it comes to preparing mid-week-meals, having the right food mixers and blenders makes home cooking feel more of a joy than a burden. Using the right kitchen tools for soup making is just as important as using the right ingredients; some prefer to use a slow cooker, others an immersion blender that can be equally as helpful when preparing soup.
Don’t be scared to try new things this winter, and remember that preparing a home cooked meal is so much more satisfying that a take-away or ready-made meal. Take advantage of all the great seasonal, tasty produce that this country has to offer, including root vegetables such as butternut squash. On cold days there is nothing better than a large bowl of soup or stew with a piece of crusty bread; it’s great comfort food and when homemade, it is neither too heavy nor too bad for you.
