Gloucestershire CCC skipper Alex Gidman out for Dutch revenge
Gloucestershire skipper Alex Gidman is relishing the opportunity to wreak vengeance on the Netherlands next year.
England crashed to one of their most ignominious cricketing defeats of all time when losing to the Dutch in the ICC World Twenty20 Championships at Lord's in June.
And Gidman is intent upon putting the record straight when Gloucestershire take on the Netherlands twice in the space of four days in the new ECB 40-over League next season.
Gloucestershire play in Amsterdam on August 26 and then host the Dutch in Bristol on August 30.
"It's one of those fixtures you automatically look for when the list comes out," said Gidman.
"You could say we owe the Netherlands one after what happened in the summer. I'm sure all counties will be up for putting the record straight.
"Hopefully, we can do better than England did and beat the Dutch."
He added: "It's a game the guys are looking forward to and it should be popular with our supporters."
The county is not ruling out a return to Gloucester in 2010. Gloucestershire are due to meet Sussex in a Twenty20 fixture on Friday, June 11 and the county will consider staging the contest at King's School, providing a sponsor can be found.
Gloucestershire will benefit from eight money-spinning home matches in an extended domestic Twenty20 competition next year and the Gladiators commence their campaign in the short format against Glamorgan in Cardiff on Friday, June 4.
A majority of the county's Twenty20 fixtures in Bristol will be staged at weekends, including a Saturday evening fixture against Hampshire on June 19, while Somerset visit on Friday, July 16.
Gloucestershire can justifiably expect to stage a more commercially successful Cheltenham Cricket Festival next year after the event was put further back in the calendar.
The College Ground will host a 40-over League contest against Yorkshire on July 29, back-to-back County Championship fixtures against neighbours Worcestershire and Glamorgan and another 40-over game against Middlesex on Sunday, August 8.
