Bryan Redpath has warned Gloucester's players they must go to Newcastle with the correct attitude this weekend or face defeat against the Guinness Premiership strugglers.

Gloucester have lost on just one of their last five trips to Kingston Park – but their biggest winning margin in the North East was last season's 20-13 triumph.

They were 11-10 victors there in the EDF Energy Cup earlier this season – and coach Redpath has told his players to expect another tight game.

Newcastle were beaten 48-8 at London Irish last weekend and sit just three points above bottom-of-the-table Bristol after 11 Premiership games.

"We have got to make sure we start well up there – and we know that if we start well and continue to perform well then we should win the game," said Redpath.

"The key thing is how we perform up there. It will be a tough game because it is never easy and we haven't had a big win up there in the four seasons I have been here. We have to make sure our mentality is right this weekend.

"Teams at the bottom really tend to scrap. And playing at Newcastle, the weather conditions tend to have a say in the matter, too, in terms of the wind. That adjustment is always hard, and they are fighting hard to stay up and they had a big defeat last week. I would imagine they'll be pretty worked up and they won't lie down."

As well as their narrow win at Kingston Park, Gloucester have also beaten Newcastle in the Premiership this season, trouncing them 39-23 at Kingsholm in September.

But fit-again Newcastle prop Carl Hayman, available after a knee injury, is confident his side can triumph on Sunday.

"We've seen Gloucester twice this season already, and obviously to be where they are in the standings means they're a great team," he said of the second-placed side.

"We competed really well when they came up here in November, losing by just one point in the last few minutes, which showed to us that they are beatable if we can get ourselves right.

"Playing at home it's a great opportunity for us, and with a good crowd in, the guys can play some quality rugby."
