Ryan Lamb is facing an audience with Gloucester's top brass after being fined by £1,000 by Cheltenham Magistrates earlier this week.

The 22-year-old fly-half admitted punching a man in the face outside a Cheltenham nightclub during the early hours of March 1 – and now faces a meeting with his employers.

Head coach Dean Ryan has said Gloucester cannot be responsible for the behaviour of its players outside the club – and has told players it is up to them to act in a "civil and according way".

While the magistrates have dealt with Lamb, he is still to come before his club's own disciplinary panel, where he could be grilled by owners Tom Walkinshaw and Martin St Quinton.

Ryan said of the club's disciplinary process: "It's done by a line manager who asks for a disciplinary hearing to be heard by key directors within the club."

He added: "I think people are responsible for their own actions. Clubs are responsible for taking actions when something has happened.

"But you cannot remove the responsibility of the individual to act in a civil and according way. I don't see this as any different.

"I think it's important that every individual here understands the standards that Gloucester operate under. If they breach those standards they face internal discipline. They have a civil responsibility to act in the community as we would expect."

Last year, Lamb accepted a caution for threatening language after an incident in Gloucester in December 2007.

Gloucester host Wasps in the Guinness Premiership on Saturday and are unlikely to be without James Simpson-Daniel, who has failed to recover from a hip problem. Centre Anthony Allen could return following injury, while flanker Akapusi Qera could be on the bench after recovering from a knee problem.
