Olly Morgan, left, celebrates scoring Gloucester's first try
Bristol had claimed their first league win of the season in their previous match against Northampton – but they finished a distant second to their neighbours in a one-sided derby last night.
Two tries from Peter Buxton, one apiece from Olly Morgan and Alex Brown and a full house of a try, four conversions, a penalty and a drop goal from Ryan Lamb gave Gloucester a comfortable victory over bottom-of-the-table Bristol.
The visitors, who made a midweek appeal for up to £2.5 million of additional annual investment, did not cross the home line until the closing minutes when David Lemi went over in the corner.
And while Bristol's supporters contemplate a worrying scrap against relegation on the field, as well as obvious financial concerns off it, the only thing the home supporters had to complain about all evening was the new and very un-Gloucester bursts of up-tempo music that followed their every score.
Gloucester had taken a 25-3 lead into the break after scoring three first-half tries – with rookie scrum-half Dave Lewis, 19, playing a key role in two of them.
The Academy youngster, making his first Kingsholm start, twice broke from line-outs to give his side the edge.
After Lamb and Adrian Jarvis had exchanged early penalties, Lewis broke deep into Bristol territory and threw a long pass to Iain Balshaw, which admittedly looked to have gone forward. Balshaw played on and his quick pass sent Morgan in for the opening try.
Lamb converted, before Jarvis missed a relatively straightforward penalty from 25 metres which would have brought Bristol back to 10-6.
Instead, Gloucester were soon celebrating a 17-3 lead, Lewis appearing as if from nowhere as his side took a short line-out, before zipping down the tramlines.
He was tackled, but managed to pass to the supporting Buxton, who dived over for his first try of the season. Lamb again converted.
The 22-year-old fly-half then added a drop goal, before a move involving most players in the Gloucester side led to their third try of the evening.
Matthew Watkins started the move on one wing, before backs and forwards alike moved possession along the line, with Luke Narraway setting up Buxton out wide for his second try.
Bristol, aside from Ed Barnes' early break into the home 22 which eventually led to Jarvis kicking their only points of the first half, offered next to nothing in attack before the break as they came up against a sharp and slick Gloucester side.
Bristol, unsurprisingly, introduced Shaun Perry for Graeme Beveridge at the break – and the scrum-half's arrival, as it had done against Northampton five days earlier, instantly injected urgency into his side.
The visitors had a bit more zip about them after the break, testing the home defence more often, with Perry and Tom Arscott looking particularly threatening before Gloucester sealed their bonus point. Apo Satala burst into the Bristol 22 and set up Lesley Vainikolo, before the wide right route was closed down, only for Narraway to skilfully put Brown in to score against his hometown club. Again Lamb converted, again the music blared out, again the home support booed.
They were cheering again minutes later, though, when Barnes threw the ball straight into the hands of Lamb on halfway – and the fly-half tore up-field to complete his full house for the evening, before converting.
Bristol soon replied, Lemi darting down the left wing to add a consolation try which was converted by Barnes.
They looked like scoring a second after Vainikolo had been sin-binned, but Perry knocked on a yard short after Neil Brew's scything break.
