Glastonbury Festival may be held in the summer of 2011 after all.

Organisers of the annual event at Michael Eavis's Worthy Farm in Somerset had originally planned a year off.

But now they hope to extend their current licence and have their next "fallow" year in 2012.

The event takes a break every few years to give the farm a chance to recover.

The move would avoid a clash with the London Olympic Games in 2012.

Mr Eavis said: "We've got the Olympics in 2012 so they'll need all the loos and all the security and all the trains.

"It's a job to get enough trains now and we need more trains because we're trying to increase public transport to Glastonbury."

The festival has to renew its licence with Mendip District Council.

Mr Eavis is hoping the authority will agree that his proposal makes sense.

He said: "Of course, it will be council permitting, because we've got a licence until 2010."

Those planning their trip to Worthy Farm this summer are already speculating about who will be headlining the event.

While Mr Eavis said he was not going to reveal the 2009 line-up at this early stage, he did drop some big hints.

He said: "Most of the rumours out there are pretty good, I must say.

"Not necessarily all of them, but most of them are good."

Three of the most hotly- tipped acts have been Bruce Springsteen, the recently reformed Blur and Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young.

Mr Eavis laughed when the names were put to him and refused to confirm or deny whether any of them would be at Pilton this summer.

However, he did say rumour-mongers had not got it completely right, with one big name yet to be mentioned.

He said: "There's one missing out there that is a really good one that people haven't latched on to yet, so I'm very pleased about that.

"It's good to have at least one surprise."

As happens every year, there have been some more off-the-wall suggestions – including that of Madonna.

But Mr Eavis said of that rumour: "That's not a good one."

Ninety per cent of this year's tickets have been sold. For more details go to www.glastonburyfestivals. co.uk.
