Gillingham in the spotlight
Gillingham have gone 10 games without a win and after a 4-0 drubbing at Brentford and a disappointing 1-0 home reverse to relegation rivals Tranmere, boss Mark Stimson made six changes to his side for their 0-0 draw at Yeovil last weekend.
The manager has made it clear that it will be performances rather than reputations that determine which names are on the team-sheet over the rest of the season.
Stimson said: "The ones left out at Yeovil would have been among the first names on the team sheet a few weeks ago.
"It's the way it's got to be because if you are not performing, you might get left out. And that means if you do get back in, you have to do it week-in, week-out."
The Gills have signed striker Chris Dickson – who had a stint with Rovers earlier this season – on loan from Charlton.
James Walker is among their other options up front. He scored once in a four-game loan spell with Rovers in 2006, while former QPR youngster Dennis Oli – now 25 – also started the game at Huish Park before being replaced by leading scorer Simeon Jackson.
Forward Andy Barcham was one of those axed to face the Glovers and Stimson admitted: "He was very disappointed to be left out and Andy is a guy with so much potential. He has just got to get over this as soon as possible, get his chin up and a smile back on his face.
"It's not a nice feeling, but it happens and if he his lucky enough to play the game for 10 years it will probably do so again.
"It's how you react, and I am sure he will react in the right way."
Tomorrow's game was set to be the last for on-loan Cardiff City defender Darren Dennehy, but Gillingham have had clearance from the Welsh club to extend the 21-year-old's deal until the end of the season.
"Whoever is available will go out and repeat the performance at Yeovil, get the home support behind us and get a result," insisted Stimson.
