TEN adults with learning disabilities are to go on a short break to fulfil the wishes of a support worker who died after a freak horse riding accident.

Experienced rider Josephine Davies, pictured, who liked to be called Joe, suffered a serious head injury after falling from her horse when it bolted on a narrow country lane in Felton, North Somerset on June 2, 2011.

The 48-year-old, who lived in Felton, was a leading member of the Brandon Trust's South Bristol Project and had planned to give the group a rare trip away from home which would also serve as a respite break for their parents and carers.

The ten people who were supported by Joe will be off to Barton Camp, near Winscombe from July 17 to 19 to enjoy a programme of social and recreational activities.

South Bristol service co-ordinator Matt Boyle told the Post the break would be a great opportunity for the group to put into practice some of the life-skills projects they had been working on, such as sharing the cooking responsibilities.

Joe's daughter Sophie Evans, who lives in Weston-super-Mare, said her mum's work with the Brandon Trust was very close to her heart and said she would have been thrilled to know the break was going ahead.
