Three Bristol teenagers excelled in international competition in Europe last week, but all three were eventually foiled by Germany.

Hannah Barwood (Knowle) helped England qualify for the matchplay in eighth spot in the European ladies' team championship in Bled, Slovenia, with rounds of 73 and 77.

She then won her first two matchplay singles against the Netherlands and France, by 2 and 1 and 4 and 3.

However, she lost her third match 3 and 2 as England had to settle for the silver medal after Germany won 4-3 at the first extra hole.

Meanwhile, although Chris Lloyd (Kendleshire) and Adam Carson (Long Ashton) helped England win the strokeplay section of the European Boys Team Championship at Golf Club de Pan near Utrecht, they lost in the matchplay quarter-final to Germany.

The Bristol pair twice won their foursomes together and Carson made it a hat-trick partnering Jonathan Bell in the third match.

Lloyd, who signed for 71 in the second round and shared 10th overall, also completed a 100 per cent success with a 5 and 4 win over Swede Joakim Lagergren in his only singles.
