The Bristol Post

WHAT a relief that George Ferguson is prioritising improvements to the Westmoreland House/Carriageworks site. Since I moved to Bristol in the late 1980s it has been an embarrassment to drive friends and family past this eyesore having picked them up from Temple Meads. How many times have I heard people ask "Why doesn't the council do something about it?"

The truth is that it has taken someone with George's vision and professional stature to recognise that people's first impressions of a city really matter. Most of us who live here know that Bristol is a very special city but it's not easy to convince people new to the city about this when their first view of what we have to offer is one of dilapidation and neglect.

Well done George for trying to make a difference. Why has it taken successive party politicians so long to cotton on to this?
