George Harrison scores a fab four tries as St Mary's see off Old Reds
Scrum Down youth rugby match of the week - St Mary's Under-15s 64 Old Redcliffians Under-15s 0: St Mary's turned on the style to beat an under-strength Old Reds side at Northwood Park, scoring 10 tries on their way to a resounding victory.
The platform was laid by their well-organised pack, which allowed their talented back-line to shine with prolific wing George Harrison leading the way as he claimed four tries.
The speedster, who was his team's top try-scorer last season, was happy with his teams display.
He said: "I thought we played really well. It wasn't about individuals, it was about playing as a team – no one was too greedy today and our defence was much better."
Harrison was joined on the score sheet by fellow wing Jordan Purderick, who bagged a brace, while captain Ben Seward, Reuben Caven and Duaine Harrison all crossed for tries and fly-half Alec Gear scored a try and added six conversions. Sam Barnes slotted one conversion.
Reds, who have lost eight players from the side that won the Combination Plate last season to rival clubs, battled bravely to the end but were unable to break down the determined home defence.
But their coach Jon White remained upbeat, saying: "We are very proud of the way the boys stuck at it today against a very good St Mary's side.
"They could have thrown in the towel but stuck with it until the end. We are in the process of rebuilding this team at the moment and we just want these lads to enjoy themselves."
