Gaza convoy has been an international reward
Boy the time you read this, God willing, the Viva Palestina convoy, a 44-ton truck loaded with medical aid, plus several other vehicles, will be on its way to the hospitals, the schools, the communities, the people of Gaza.
I am pleased and proud to have played a small part in helping this convoy of humanitarian aid. As I work in finance, I offered the team my money skills and was appointed Treasurer. Working with the team behind the convoy has been totally uplifting. We have all pulled together. But I must single out, for all their efforts, Bristol's Muslim community.
In our convoy meetings I have sat, as a Christian, with other Christians, members of the Jewish faith, a Sikh, atheists, but by far the largest group have been Muslim. Their generosity seems to know no bounds. After one Friday prayer at one mosque, the cash collection was over £1,000.
We've also met as an international group: as people from Britain, Ireland, Poland, Iran, Iraq, South Africa, Libya, Turkey and Australia. And we've all worked together.
As a group, my Muslim friends are incredibly hard working, dedicated, honest, and committed to helping others. Their faith has them clean living – they do not gamble, and alcohol is at a minimum.
Every single one of them has been a pleasure to work with.
Neil Maggs, Treasurer – Bristol Gaza Link.
