Gloucestershire County League: Chipping Sodbury Town gained their first three points with a 1-0 win at close rivals DRG Stapleton.

Sodbury were reduced to 10 men in the 57th minute when Mike England was sent off for a bad tackle from behind, but the home side – who have yet to score in 360 minutes of league football this season – were unable to capitalise on their one man advantage.

They went close on a couple of occasions. Conrad Mignott rounded the Sodbury keeper then hit his shot against the upright.

Sodbury should have scored when Lee Gardener was put clear on goal but a last-ditch tackle by Kirk Waldron averted the danger.

Mignott was again unlucky in the second half when Sodbury's keeper just managed to divert his effort onto the crossbar. Sodbury were never fazed at being a man down and scored an 85th-minute winner when Gardener fired into the far corner.

Kings Stanley marched on with a 3-0 home win over Hanham Athletic. The game was marred by a bad injury to a Stanley player and the game was held up for 30 minutes after an ambulance was called.

Five minutes after the restart Stanley opened the scoring with a terrific shot from John Embling, and they went further ahead two minutes later when Nick Reiger netted from the penalty spot.

Matt Casey made it three just before the break after rounding several defenders.

Yate Town Reserves, who thrashed DRG Stapleton the previous week, had a more difficult task when they entertained B & W Avonside. They fell behind to a Mark Linton strike on 15 minutes but levelled through a Justin Cattle penalty.

Tuffley Rovers slipped up at home to Thornbury Town going down 2-0. Thornbury went ahead on the hour from a Chris Johnson penalty and added the second in the last minute through Steve Alexander.

Ellwood beat Highridge United 2-1 in an entertaining game. Matt Addis gave Ellwood the lead on 15 minutes, Gary Gripps levelling for United soon after the interval. Ellwood grabbed an 80th-minute winner when Ryan Pendry netted from the spot.

In only their second league game of the season Taverners went down 3-0 at home to Slimbridge with goals from Lewis Wilton, Carl Brown and Ian Preece.

Berkeley Town continued their good start with a 3-1 home win over a Patchway Town side who had three players sent off. Richard Langford headed Berkeley in front before Lee Francis levelled, but Mike Bryant and Langford secured the points.
