Stroke support schemes can apply for money for projects that will improve patients' quality of life.

South Gloucestershire Council manages a fund on behalf of the Department of Health for supporting schemes that benefit stroke survivors in the district.

It is able to fund eight projects – one up to £45,000, two up to £20,000 and five up to £1,000 – that offer support to stroke sufferers – and their carers and families – allowing them to live independently in their own home and to have a good quality of life.

Through the funds' help the council hopes patients can regain confidence, learn new skills, take part in community life and return to work.

The closing date for applications is Friday, January 30. Details and an application form are available from Sue Jaques at South Gloucestershire Council on 01454 868267.
