Merlin's Chief Executive Ian Matthews, who took part in the run said, "This event is our first fund-raiser for the Tom Hunt Trust. Staff voted for the trust to be our charity of the year after it was put suggested by one of our Twitter followers.

Colleen Hunt, from the Tom Hunt Trust said. "We're delighted that Merlin is supporting us this year. Our aim is to raise enough money to create a teenage cancer unit in Bristol.

"I lost my son Tom, to Osteasarcoma, which a type of bone cancer in 2010. He firmly believed that an environment created specifically for teenagers would help keep young people battling cancer, positive. So I decided to try and make this a reality in his honour."

Merlin hopes to match its charity fund-raising from 2011. Other events planned include taking part in the Bristol Dragon Boat Race and holding a five-a-side football tournament later this year. You can donate to its cause by visiting www.justgiving.com/merlinhousingsociety.
