A series of sporting activities are being organised across North Somerset to encourage youngsters to get fit.

North Somerset Council is offering young people the chance to take part in taster sessions over the next eight weeks in sports such as canoeing and squash.

The activities are being run as part of the authority's Young Person's Key scheme, which has joined forces with the national Sport Unlimited initiative.

The Government has earmarked £36 million over the next three years as part of a drive to get more young people and children involved in sport.

It is hoped that teenagers taking part in the taster sessions will continue with the sport when they end.

The new activities include canoeing sessions, athletics training, squash sessions and orienteering.

The activities are on offer up until the end of June and those joining up will have to pay a minimal charge.

To enquire about bookings for any of the sessions, contact North Somerset Council's Sport and Active Lifestyles Team on 01275 810 995 or email sport@n-somerset.gov.uk.
