Frome crash out of FA Cup at hands of Hamworthy United
Hamworthy United 3 Frome Town 2
Frome Town's poor run of form continued with their fourth defeat in a row as they crashed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle, losing 3-2 at Hamworthy United.
The match started in the worst possible way for Frome as they went behind after 38 seconds. A Hamworthy attack resulted in the ball finding its way to right-back Max Crow on the wing, and his speculative 30-yard shot struck the inside of the post and rebounded into the back of the net.
Frome drew level in the 20th minute with another bizarre goal. A high lob from Greg Lake on the left wing drew Steve Shergold out of his area to head the ball clear, but he only succeeded in heading the ball towards his own goal, and Tom Piotrowski was left with the easiest of tap-ins to make it 1-1.
Frome settled, but it didn't last long and as the defence failed to properly clear the ball after a free kick, it fell to Hamworthy's Jack Swann who drilled the ball home. Hamworthy entered the break with a 3-1 lead thanks to a superb 30-yard lob from Swann.
Frome reduced the arrears in the 70th minute when an Alex Lapham corner came back out, and his second attempt was drilled hard back into the box where Craig Fullam managed to prod the ball home.
