Hundreds sign up for Troy memorial walk
More than 300 friends and relatives have now agreed to join a sponsored walk in memory of teenager Troy Atkinson, who died in a hit-and-run collision in Bristol city centre last week.
As reported in the Post on Saturday, the walk is being held to help the 15-year-old's family cover the costs of his funeral.

Hundreds sign up for the Troy Atkinson memorial walk
The walk will take place on Tuesday at 7pm, exactly one week after the talented rugby player from Hartcliffe was killed.
It will start outside the Castlemead building in Lower Castle Street, at the scene of the crash, and finish four miles away at Troy's family home in Gatcombe Road, Hartcliffe.
Everyone taking part has been asked to donate £5, with all the money going to the cost of the funeral service.
Yesterday more than 100 of Troy's friends and relatives turned out to the green in Gatcombe Road for a fundraising barbecue. That followed a fundraising event held at the Harriers pub in Bishport Avenue last Friday.
Troy died in Frenchay Hospital after suffering severe head injuries when he was knocked down by a car near the junction of Penn Street, Broad Weir and Lower Castle Street at 7pm on Tuesday.
Police arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he has been released on bail.
Dozens of bouquets of flowers and messages have been left near the scene of the collision outside the Castlemead building.
A Facebook page has been set up in memory of Troy Atkinson, and you can also post your memories at Lasting Tribute.

“Thank you BEP for removing the post from "Tracy" well done. I and no doubt others reported this as abuse of the site.”

“Tracey, I happen to be a friend of troys and I work 9 til 5 every week day and pay national insurance and tax! as jan said do you really think that your comments are helping or even correct? remember troy was only 15 and most of his friends are the same age and at school!! we are all going though a horrible time at the moment and it doesnt help hearing things like that! one of the main reasons why the walk is at 7 is so that all of troys friends and family THAT work can be there also, please think twice, before leaving comments like that, i just hope you never have to go through what we are all going through right now, i was only with troy a week or so before he died and now i will never see him again! please have a heart for his friends and family”

“I think that the BEP have a responsibility to be more forthright in moderating some of the posts made almost daily on this site. Before certain of you jump in with the same old rant that ¿everybody has the right to an opinion¿, just consider that the normal standards of decency and consideration for other peoples feelings should apply here. If you would not say it to the persons face then please do not post it on this site. In my opinion the post from ¿Tracy¿ exceeds that which is acceptable.”

“Tracy, how funny you take the time and effort to write such vile remarks about peoples grammar and spelling (people you don't even know) and then you spell 'benefits' incorrectly and miss the apostrophe out of don't !
Regardless of someone's education or ability to spell, you seem to be missing the point that a young lad has been tragically killed and his friends and family are dealing with their loss.
If I were you, I would worry about your own heartless attitude and not other peoples ability to spell.”

“I am fed up with reading these articles and coming acroos comments like those by Tracy. Utter irrelevant to the whole story! Just take a minute and think how you would feel if you were one of Troys family and had to read mindless comments like yours on here!!! Regardless of people's socail status they are going to do this walk for Troy and to help his family at this sad,sad time! (For your information, i have a full time job and an education thank you very much!!)”

“Tracy, do you really think your comments regarding peoples social status helps? Close your eyes and imagine the heartache of losing a child, the raw pain that should never be experienced by anyone. This world is focused on the material things in life, this poor child was killed and taken away from all that loved him, that's what matters. Troys mother has bought him up for fifteen years and then hes gone. So many lives have been devastated by this, the driver all but a child himself. He didn't set out that day to kill anyone. I did not know Troy, however, my children did. I will be donating to the fund and before you ask, yes I work and I work long hours, but I am a mum first and foremost and my heartfelt sympathy goes to his family.”
